Police appeal for information following fatal collision on M6

At around 7.47pm police were called to reports of serious collision involving a white Renault van and a crane truck on the M6 between junction 16, Crewe, and 17, Sandbach. A passenger in the van, a 34-year-old man from the Manchester area was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the van, a 30-year-old man also from the Manchester area, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital for treatment.

The motorway was closed on the southbound carriageway for several hours while the incident was ongoing. Officers are appealing for any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to get in touch with them, as well as anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage which captured what happened. Inspector Andrew Dennison said: "As part of our investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident, we would like to appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened and has not already spoken to police to get in touch with us.

"The same goes for anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage.

"Our thoughts remain with the man's family and friends at this sad time."
