Police warning after spike in fatal crashes on Norfolk roads

A biker in his 50s died at the scene of a crash with a DAF truck in Stoke Ferry[1] on February 26, and a man in his 20s died after the Ford Transit he was driving collided with a tractor unit on the A47 at King's Lynn[2] on February 27. On March 2, a man in his 70s died at the scene of a crash on the A10 at Downham Market[3]. Sergeant Lee, of the Roads and Armed Policing Team in Norfolk (Image: West Norfolk Police)

With this in mind, Sergeant Lee from the Roads and Armed Policing Team in Norfolk has issued some safety advice. "We're investigating each of these collisions, and while there's no apparent link between them and the circumstances, [we] want to remind the road users of Norfolk of some points that we can all take to try and reduce future collisions occurring," he said. "The first point I'd like to remind you all of is driving to the conditions.

"Please drive to arrive. "Weather conditions, visibility, road conditions and traffic conditions can change very quickly, so please stay alert. "Make sure that you maintain appropriate distances from the vehicle in front.

"Secondly, a reminder around driving while you're tired or fatigued, making sure that you take regular breaks on long journeys."

He also reminded people to consider the "fatal four" offences - driving while intoxicated through drink or drugs, using a phone or device at the wheel, speeding and not wearing a seatbelt.

"Fatal and serious road traffic collisions have a devastating impact on friends of those involved, the family of those involved, and the wider community," he urged.
