Saltash crash closes A38 as one person injured

The A38[1] has reopened after a "serious" crash in Saltash[2] this evening (Wednesday, March 25). All three emergency services were on scene, between the A388[3] Carkeel Roundabout and the B3271 New Road eastbound, as evening rush hour arrived. Devon and Cornwall Police said one person was being treated by paramedics and the air ambulance also landed.

The closure was initially in both directions as emergency crews worked at the scene, near the entrance to Saltash Tunnel[4]. Though the westbound closure was only brief, the eastbound closure was ongoing for hours. National Highways described the incident as a "serious collision involving a lorry and a car".

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said crews from from Saltash, Camels Head and Bodmin responded, with "one casualty released from a vehicle using crash rescue equipment." The A38 has since reopened and delays had cleared by 7.50pm. Emergency services have been contacted for further information.
