Two people were seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash near Yeovil[1] yesterday (Wednesday, March 18).

A third person was also injured in the collision on the A30 in Sherborne[2], just over the border in Dorset, at around 2.50pm.

The A30 Yeovil Road was shut between Sheeplands Lane and the petrol station[3] due to the incident near the A352 Horsecastle Lane.

Dorset Police[4] said it is believed two cars and a van were involved in the crash - a grey Mercedes E-class, a white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van and a red Mazda 3.

The occupants of the Mazda, a man and woman aged in their 80s, were believed to have suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment, police said.

The driver of the Mercedes E-class, a man in his 70s, was treated for injuries not believed to be serious.

Officers have urged anyone who saw the crash to come forward as it investigates the circumstances.

Police Constable James Hazell, of the Roads Policing Team, said: "Our enquiries into the circumstances of this collision remain ongoing and I am keen to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, as well as anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam footage.

"I would also like to thank motorists for their patience and understanding during the road closures, which were put in place as emergency services responded to this incident."

The closure was in place throughout yesterday afternoon and evening while emergency crews responded and carried out accident investigation work.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police added: "Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online, via email at [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55260038275.

"Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111."
