Luke Beardsworth Co-editor[5] Police were called in to recover around 50 stolen Henry Hoover vacuum cleaners in an incident on the motorway network. They were called at 3am on Wednesday morning (1 April) to reports of a theft from a HGV at Rivington Services on the M61.

Police began an immediate investigation and a second HGV was stopped on Bolton Road in Chorley where the 50 vacuum cleaners were discovered.

A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of theft and criminal damage. He was still in custody later on Wednesday morning.

The vacuum cleaners were returned. A spokesperson for police said: "We were called at about 3am today following a report of a theft from an HGV at Rivington Services on the M61. "A second vehicle, also an HGV , was subsequently stopped by us on Bolton Road in Chorley and a man in his 50s arrested on suspicion of theft and criminal damage.

He remains in custody. "The stolen items, about 50 vacuum cleaners, were recovered and returned." Support Blog Preston: Keep our community reporting going and view the website without any adverts too. Sign up for a membership today[7].
