Aylesbury: PC was on wrong side of road in A41 fatal crash, court told

Philip Duthie had been driving at 60mph in a 40mph zone while responding to an emergency incident when he hit 27-year-old, Kimberley Cameron, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard. The Thames Valley Police (TVP) officer, 41, is charged with causing death by careless driving after colliding with the pedestrian on April 16, 2021 at a pelican crossing on the A41 in Aylesbury. The prosecution told the court earlier today hat Duthie was driving on the wrong side of the road and his view was obstructed by a van as Ms Cameron crossed the road.
The Independent Officer for Police Conduct, which previously investigated the case, said the 27-year-old, who had been out for a run, died at the scene. During a brief hearing, Duthie, of Chappell Way, Leighton Buzzard, elected for his case to be heard by a judge and jury at crown court. District Judge Michael Snow released him on unconditional bail ahead of his next appearance at the Old Bailey on May 26.
Earlier this month, a TVP spokesperson said: "The force's thoughts remain with the family and friends of Kimberley Cameron, and all those affected by this incident." An inquest at Beaconsfield Coroners Court in October 2022 heard how Kimberly was an "aspiring, kind and thoughtful person" and a much-loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, friend and colleague. Senior Coroner, Crispin Butler, said her cause of death was confirmed as "multiple injuries" following a post-mortem.
Her family said she was known to her loved ones as Kim and Kimmy and that it was her dream to become an NHS nurse before following in the footsteps of her dad and granddad in becoming an RAF officer. In a statement in April 2021, her family said: "She was a truly remarkable, independent young woman, who, despite having Type 1 diabetes lived every day to the full and never let it define who she was. "She was a passionate cyclist and runner who aspired to be a role model to all diabetics by pushing and challenging her physical limits daily.
"Kimberley was always positive, full of joy and her smile lit up every room she entered. "She touched many hearts and will be truly missed by her family, friends, and work colleagues. "We are incredibly proud of the woman she became.
"On behalf of all of the family, we would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to all of the emergency services, doctors and members of the public who tried to save and comfort Kimberley in the moments before she passed away.
"It is a comfort to know that she was not alone."
