Casualty airlifted to hospital after horror M6 crash between lorry and car

A person was airlifted to hospital following a serious crash on the M6[1] involving a lorry and a car.

A huge emergency service response descended on the motorway near junction 41 at 1.12pm on Tuesday (April 7).

The motorway was closed southbound for more than seven hours between J41 and J40 due to the incident. Advertisement Advertisement

Cumbria[2] Police said the collision involved a HGV and a Seat Tarraco and the driver of the lorry was uninjured.

A rear seat occupant of the Seat was taken to hospital by air ambulance with 'life-threatening injuries'.

Officers said the driver of the Seat was uninjured while two other occupants suffered minor injuries.

The motorway fully reopened at around 8.15pm.
