Five-car crash closes road as Southport man arrested

A man has been arrested following a five-car crash in Merseyside. Emergency services were called to Station Road in Ainsdale at around 11.20am on Monday, April 13, following reports of a crash involving five cars.

Police said there were no reports of injuries but a 56-year-old man from Southport was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving. He remains in police custody, as the ECHO reports.[1][2]

Pictures showed a police van and a fire engine at the scene, and diversions were put in place as a result of the incident.

Arriva North West posted on X: "There's been a little incident in Ainsdale Village, so we're taking a small detour around the area. Thanks so much for your understanding!"

Traffic monitoring site Inrix said: "Liverpool Road Westbound partially blocked, slow traffic due to accident between A565 Liverpool Avenue and Station Road." Advertisement

A spokesperson for Merseyside[3] Police said: "We received a report of a collision involving five vehicles on Station Road, in Ainsdale, at around 11.20am today (Monday April 13).

"There were no reported injuries.

A 56-year-old man from Southport was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

He remains in police custody."
