Police have issued a plea for dashcam footage after a pedestrian was struck by a Volkswagen Polo while walking along the M621.
The pedestrian - a 34-year-old woman from Morley[1] - was tragically struck by a Volkswagen Polo while walking in the carriageway at around 4.45am this morning (Friday, April 10). The woman suffered "serious injuries" and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident led to a full closure of the motorway in both directions, with drivers briefly urged to avoid it entirely.
Now, following the roads' re-opening, West Yorkshire Police are now hunting for dashcam footage of the incident. A spokesperson said: "Detectives are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic incident involving a pedestrian on the M621 near Leeds.[2][3]
"Leeds CID would like to speak to anyone who saw or has footage of the collision near junction one of the M621 clockwise today (Friday, April 10) involving a car and a pedestrian.
"The incident took place at about 4.45am when a Volkswagen Polo was in collision with a woman who was walking in the carriageway. Emergency services attended and located the seriously injured victim, a 34-year-old Morley woman, who was being provided with first aid by the driver involved.
"Despite medical attention from emergency services, she passed away at the scene a short while later.
A full closure was put in place on both sides of the motorway while incident investigation and recovery work was carried out. The motorway was re-opened earlier this afternoon."
Detective Inspector Paul Burlace of Leeds CID, said: "Our investigation remains ongoing into this tragic collision on the M621 in which a woman has sadly lost her life.
"Specially trained officers are supporting her family and we are appealing for witnesses and footage, showing either the collision or parties involved just before it took place."
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is urged to contact the Roads Policing Unit by calling 101 or going online, quoting police log 181 of April 10.
