Lorries crash and spill 20 tonnes of prosecco across M4

Dramatic photos from the scene of crash involving two HGVs on the M4 show dozens of bottles of prosecco smashed across the carriageway. The incident, which happened on the M4 between junctions 13 and 14 earlier today (April 27), has resulted in one driver being investigated for dangerous driving with suspicion that a mobile phone was being used behind the wheel. The Thames Valley Roads Policing team said one of the HGVs involved in the crash had its empty shipping container knocked off.
However, the second HGV was carrying 20 tonnes of Lovello Prosecco and sustained hundreds of bottles, with several smashed on the motorway. The M4 was closed for recovery due to "extensive clearance" being required. A spokesperson for Thames Valley Roads Policing said in a post on Facebook earlier: "Two HGVs have collided between Junction 13 and 14 causing major disruption.
"One vehicle has had its (empty) shipping container knocked off. The second was carrying 20 tonnes of Lovello Prosecco, now spread across the carriageway, leaving significant debris and smashed glass throughout. "One driver is under investigation for dangerous driving, with early indications suggesting mobile phone use at the wheel.
"Recovery will be prolonged and complex as one lorry partially lifted off the ground, container fully dislodged off another and extensive clearance required." It continued: "M4 currently closed for recovery -- diversion routes in operation. "A reminder: using your phone at the wheel doesn't just risk points -- it risks lives.
Amazingly only minor injuries received by one of the drivers!
"Not quite the roadside refreshment anyone had in mind."
