M4 lorry crash: 20 tonnes of prosecco spills onto motorway

The crash, which took place on Monday morning, April 27, has seen two HGVs collide on the westbound motorway between Reading and Swindon. One lorry has had its empty shipping container knocked off, while the second lorry which was carrying 20 tonnes of Lovello Prosecco, has had its container damaged. Bottles of prosecco have now spilled out onto the motorway in the aftermath of the crash, along with significant debris and smashed glass.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police's road policing team said: "Two HGVs have collided between Junction 13 and 14, causing major disruption. "One vehicle has had its (empty) shipping container knocked off. The second was carrying 20 tonnes of Lovello Prosecco -- now spread across the carriageway, leaving significant debris and smashed glass throughout.

Passers-by have described the incident as 'shocking', and motorists are now being forced to divert away from the motorway.

At the time of writing, one lorry remains partially lifted off the ground, with the other's container fully dislodged.
