M4 partially closed after serious collision as drivers told to avoid area

Two lanes of the M4 remain closed after what was described by police as a "serious collision" between a car and a van.

The motorway was closed around 7pm on Monday, April 6. Initially both the eastbound and westbound carriageways between junction 35, Pencoed, and junction 34, Miskin were closed. Now, lanes two and three eastbound remain closed.

A spokesperson for the force initially said: "We are at the scene of a serious collision on the M4[1] eastbound.

"The eastbound and westbound carriageways are closed between M4 junction 35 and M4 junction 34.

It is expected to remain closed for some time.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected in the area."

In an updated statement, police said: "South Wales Police[2] was called at 7:00pm on Monday April 6 to collision between a car and a van between junctions 35 to 34 eastbound on the M4

"No injuries have currently been reported and lanes two and three remain closed."
