Two people have died following a crash on the A59 near Clitheroe[1].
Emergency services were called to Gisburn Road in Sawley at 3.44pm on Saturday (April 11) following reports of a collision involving a green Mazda MX5, travelling westbound towards Clitheroe from Gisburn, and a DAF HGV travelling in the opposite direction, opposite Dunbia Abattoir.
Police, paramedics and fire crews attended the scene, but the driver of the Mazda, a 49-year-old man, and a 25-year-old female passenger were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers said the driver of the HGV was uninjured and stopped at the scene. He is being treated solely as a witness in enquiries.
The road was closed for several hours while investigations were carried out. An appeal has now been launched for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage.
Sgt Paul McCurrie, of the Roads Policing Team said: "Very sadly, a man and a woman have died in this collision, and primarily, my and my team's thoughts are with all those who knew and loved them at this time.
Enquiries into how the collision occurred are ongoing, and as part of those enquiries, I need to ask for your help.
"If you witnessed the collision, or have any footage that could assist our enquiries, we would be really keen to speak to you. I'm appealing to you directly to ask that if you were driving on the A59 prior to the collision in this area, and have a dashcam, to please check your footage.
"If you have captured the Mazda, or the HGV, please let us know. Equally, if you witnessed the collision, or either vehicle prior to it, get in touch."
