Man bailed after A14 fatal Ipswich crash closes road

Just after 9am on Monday (April 27), officers attended a collision at Nacton involving a lorry and a silver Ford S-Max on the westbound carriageway of the A14. The driver of the car, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene and a 50-year-old man was then arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.[1] He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and has now been bailed until July 13.

The crash closed the road until the early hours of Tuesday, when National Highways announced at 2am that the closures had been lifted. Ambulance and Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service crews were also in attendance. Two passengers in the car were taken to the hospital for a check-up, but were not believed to be seriously injured and have now been discharged.

Officers from the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage that could help with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Serious Collision Investigation Unit, quoting reference: 37/23817/26.
