Marlborough Pets shopfront to be restored after lorry smash

The incident happened in the early hours of January 5, causing damage to several shopfronts on the A4 London Road in Marlborough. One eyewitness reported that an HGV driver collided with scaffolding poles, taking out three bay windows in the rank of 18th century shopfronts. The lorry did not stop.

Now Marlborough Pets has applied for listed building consent to replace the bay window and door of the Grade II Listed 5 London Road, which is in the town's Conservation Area. Taking a "conservation-led approach," business owner Tina Kelly is seeking permission to replace the window and door like-for-like, matching the original size, proportions, materials, glazing type, detailing and colour. She also wants to replace 40 damaged tiles on the historic lean-to roof using reclaimed handmade clay tiles, and replace six metres of leadwork.

Finally, the applicants want to replace the damaged cast-iron style black guttering and downpipe.

A decision from Wiltshire Council is expected by mid-May.
