Mum dies in hospital eight days after pony and trap crash in Kent

A mum has died in hospital eight days after a crash involving a tipper truck and a pony and trap in Kent.

Rita Connors was left critically injured after a crash on the A228 Boyle Way in East Peckham on April 1.

Her husband Francie Connors and their young daughter Ka both died in the crash.

The pony and trap was travelling southbound on the A228 when it was struck by a DAF tipper truck driving in the same direction. Advertisement Advertisement

A spokesperson for Kent Police confirmed yesterday (April 10) that Rita has also died from her injuries.

The driver of the lorry, a 29-year-old man from Kent, was arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit.

He was taken into custody and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: An investigation into the circumstances is underway and officers are continuing to urge any witnesses or anyone who saw the truck or pony and trap prior to the collision, to contact the appeal line.
