Serious crash closes A23 just north of Brighton

The A23 remained closed this morning (Friday 17 April) after a serious crash just north of Brighton late last night. The road is expected to stay shut until mid-morning. Sussex Police said: "Police are investigating a serious collision on the A23 at Albourne.

"The collision involving multiple vehicles including two cars and a lorry at about 10.15pm on Thursday 16 April on the northbound carriageway. "Three occupants from a blue Ford Fiesta were taken to hospital with serious injuries where they remain. "This included the driver, a 17-year-old boy, from East Grinstead, and two 19-year-old men, from East Grinstead and from Copthorne, who were passengers.

"The driver of a Ford Puma, a 46-year-old woman, from Horsham, also sustained injuries, while the driver of a lorry, a 57-year-old man, from Swindon, was not injured. "Road closures remain in place on the northbound carriageway from Pyecombe and diversions are in place. "Motorists are advised to find alternative routes and further information will be provided in due course.

"Witnesses or anyone with information about the collision including with CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage is asked to report it to Sussex Police online, quoting Operation Malling."
