Here are the faces of 97 people who have been jailed for the most serious crimes in Wales in the past month. This list includes a man who murdered his wife and buried her in his garden. His aunty was also jailed for helping him try to cover up the horrific crime.
There is also an 18-year-old boy who killed his mum by repeatingly hitting her over the head with a hammer he'd bought online after making her wear a balaclava and walking her to a footpath beside a nature reserve.

Alireza Askari and Maryam Delvary

Alireza Askari murdered his own wife and buried her in his garden - and his aunty Maryam Delvary attempted to help him avoid justice. The body of Paria Veisi was discovered in a makeshift grave in her husband's back yard after he had fatally stabbed her to the neck and upper chest.
A sentencing hearing[4] at Cardiff Crown Court[5] heard Ms Veisi, 37, was found dead at an address in Cardiff[6] on April 15 last year having been reported missing by concerned loved ones.
Originally from Iran, she had last been seen driving a black Mercedes car four days earlier while leaving her workplace in Canton.
In the days after Askari murdered his wife in the conservatory, Delvary helped her nephew bleach the property and dig a hole in the garden for her body. Ms Veisi, who was described by her friends as a "kind, caring, and vibrant soul", had moved out of the property less than a fortnight before the murder. Advertisement

Askari was jailed for 25 years while Delvary received a sentence of five years and six months.
Tristan Thomas Roberts

A mum begged her son to call 999 before he walked her to a nature reserve with a mask over her head and killed her with a hammer he'd bought online.
Tristan Thomas Roberts, 18, killed his mum[7] Angela Shellis, 45, after repeatedly hitting her to the head after making her wear a balaclava and walking her to a footpath beside a nature reserve.
Roberts, who had admitted wanting to kill Ms Shellis via the online platform Discord and had been planning the killing for weeks, had bought hammers, knives and protective clothing before attacking his mother in the house they shared in Prestatyn.

He had also asked the AI platform DeepSeek about ways he could kill and whether he should use a hammer or a knife. The AI system replied to him by suggesting he should use a hammer.
Bernita and Alan Davies

The mother and father of a woman who was found dead in her bed weighing just five stone in an "emaciated state" with lice in her hair were given lengthy jail sentences.
Bernita Davies, who was described in court as the "mother from hell" and her husband Alan, both 60, were both sentenced to eight[8] years immediate custody for causing or allowing their daughter's death.
Steffie Davies, 32, was found dead by paramedics who were called to her home in Wrexham[9] in May, 2023, Mold Crown Court heard on Wednesday, March 19.[10] Ms Davies was said to be "almost skeletal" with pressure sores and joint contractures which would have prevented her from eating or drinking without assistance.
Daniel Wyke

Daniel Wyke, a Chinese takeaway delivery driver hit a dog walker, leaving him to die in a pond. Wyke span a web of lies after he struck father-of-two Aaron Jones with his car days before Christmas and left him for dead.[11]

Mr Jones, 38, was out walking his family's Labrador in his home village of Llanpumsaint, north of Carmarthen, on the evening of December 23, 2024. Wyke was driving dangerously at 34mph down a 20mph country lane. The lane was straight, with visibility of up to 100m, and Mr Jones was also wearing a high-visibility jacket.
Despite this, Wyke struck Mr Jones in his 18-plate Volkswagen T-Cross car.
He was projected from Wyke's windshield, landing over a stone wall. His body was left partially submerged in a pond in a churchyard while Wyke returned to the Chinese takeaway he worked at.
He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving. Mr Jones' family said the loss is something they "will never recover from".
They described Wyke's actions as "unforgiveable" and said they they are serving a life-sentence of unimaginable grief.
Christopher Jenkins, Corey Jenkins, and Paul Jenkins

Paul, Christopher, Corey and Lisa Jenkins went after brothers Adam Miller and Kristian Thomas after the siblings had smashed their windows with golf clubs.
Swansea Crown Court[13] heard the result was "large-scale disorder" on a residential street during which an innocent bystander suffered a serious injury. Jailing five of the defendants, a judge said their actions had caused fear for residents living in the community.
Leon Kidner

Leon Kidner left a schoolgirl with nightmares after raping her while she was on a family holiday.
Kidner attacked the 15-year-old in a caravan in a Carmarthenshire[14] site after previously giving her cannabis and knowing she had drunk alcohol.
The 34-year-old then lied to police and a jury and claimed the sex had been consensual and had been initiated by the child. [15]The victim said what happened in the caravan had impacted all aspects of her life - her relationships with others, her education, her well-being, and how she sees herself - adding: "I feel hollow and unstable. Every day feels like a struggle to feel normal again." Advertisement

Sending Kidner down for 10 years, the judge told him the "wickedness" of his offending was in the life-long scars it leaves on victims.
Walter Kanhukamwe

Walter Kanhukamwe, 24, stabbed a man with a kitchen knife as he was flying a drone on his own doorstep -Credit:South Wales Police
Walter Kanhukamwe used a kitchen knife to stab a man who was flying a drone from his own doorstep.
The victim was left with a superficial wound but was left psychologically scarred. Kanhukamwe, 24, approached his victim outside his home in Cardiff[16] at around 1.30am on June 9 last year and wounded him with the blade in an unprovoked attack. He then dropped the blade and fled, as the victim suffered an injury to his chest.
The court heard Kanhukamwe was on immigration bail at the time of the assault.[17] He has 11 previous convictions for offences including possession of an offensive weapon and a bladed article, and animal cruelty offences.
He was found to be a dangerous offender and was sentenced to six years imprisonment, with an extended licence period of three years.
Jordanna Wheeler

A woman who was handed a suspended prison sentence for beating her dog to death with a saucepan has been jailed for failing to comply with the court order.
Jordanna Wheeler repeatedly broke the curfew which was part of her suspended sentence, failed to turn up for multiple appointments, and didn't engage with any help being offered by various agencies. Advertisement Advertisement

Activating the suspended sentence, a judge said custody was the "best place" for her at the present time,[18] especially given "the state" she turned up at court in.
The original sentencing hearing was told that in August last year Wheeler attended Neath [19]Port Talbot[20] Hospital "demanding to be sectioned" due to her mental health issues.
While talking to staff Wheeler disclosed that she had attended a party the previous day and consumed a large amount of alcohol before going home. She said she then "woke up on the sofa covered in spew" and when she went to look for her dog "I discovered I had battered him to death".
Hazel Templeton
The paedophile repeatedly indecently assaulted a teenage boy in the 1980s during which she forced him into having sexual intercourse with her.

The court heard she forced the victim to touch her sexually and carry out a sex act on her, and had sex with the victim on two occasions. The 80-year-old was convicted of four counts of indecent assault against her victim following a trial.
She has previous convictions for indecent assaults and gross indecency with a child.[21]
Mark Hawkes

The serial sex offender brutally raped and sexually assaulted a young boy shortly after sexually abusing a young girl.
The impact of what Mark Hawkes did to the boy almost two decades ago has been described as "mental torture" of the victim which "almost destroyed" him.
Hawkes - who is currently serving a prison sentence for the sexual abuse of the young girl - denied the offences against the boy but was convicted at trial at Swansea Crown Court. He threatened to kill the boy if he revealed what had happened[22].
He was handed a special sentence as an offender of particular concern, which he will have to serve after he completes his current sentence.
Nigel Page

The pensioner put on a pair of stockings and a thong to sexually assault a vulnerable teenage girl he had just met. Nigel Page had pretended to be assisting the intoxicated girl by taking her home to charge her phone but then took advantage of her state by attacking her.[23]
The 68-year-old, from Carmarthen[24], was convicted of sexual assault following a trial. Sentencing him to two years in prison, a judge said the teenage victim had been in "no position to make sensible choices" and did not understand that Page was not acting altruistically but was motivated by a sexual attraction to her.
Marcin Kluska

A pub chef bit his housemate's ear so hard part of it became detached.
After the attack, Marcin Kluska, 47, tried to conceal evidence and when police arrived at the scene he was stood in his towel while the victim lay outside on the grass, covered in blood and unconscious.
The attack happened following an argument between Kluska and the victim, who were both intoxicated, at a home in Cardiff. The last thing the victim remembers was the argument before he woke up in hospital the next day.[25]
Kluska bit the man on his ear with such force that he detached part of the cartilage and hit him on the head with his guitar. He was taken to the hospital by the ambulance service and doctors found he was missing 2cm of his left ear, had a wound to the back of his head and swelling to both eye sockets. Kluska was sentenced to five years and six months in prison.
Shazad Ali

The young man from Newport was jailed for supporting the terrorist organisation ISIS.
During a search of Shazad Ali's home, officers recovered digital devices that contained a library of terrorist publications.[26]
Investigators also found that the 21-year-old had publicly shared several extreme Islamist videos online. After he was sentenced to five years in prison, a detective from Counter Terrorism Policing Wales said Ali "represented a very clear, very dangerous threat to the public".
Stewart Parker and Sophie Rees

Stewart Parker was a cocaine dealer "working the pubs" of his local town. He was caught after officers saw him acting suspiciously outside a bar.
His arrest led the woman he was buying stock from to dump her phone and buy a new one and officers caught her in the act of setting up her new device.
Sophie Rees was also caught with more than ?1,600 in cash which she claimed was from the sale of horses.
Sending the pair down[27] a judge told them that Class A drugs not only blights the health of those who are addicted but "blights communities where decent people live and work".
Jake Price

The rugby player from Port Talbot[28] told a woman he had gone into her bedroom in the dead of night and carried out a sex act on himself while watching her sleep. The incident was part of a course of harassment carried out by Jake Price against two women, despite both having restraining orders banning him from contacting them.
Price was made subject to the restraining orders after he repeatedly contacted the victims. As well as bombarding her with phone calls and messages, he made repeated visits to one of the women's home, followed her when she went out and subjected her to abusive comment about her weight.
Sentencing him to 18 months in prison, a judge described Price's behaviour towards the women as "spiteful, calculating, and immature", and said the phrase that came to mind to describe the 31-year-old was "man child".[29]
Michael Rogers

He attacked his ex-girlfriend at a McDonald's drive-thru after pulling her out of her friend's car[30] and throwing her into his mother's car parked in front.
Michael Rogers told the victim to take her tracksuit off, as he previously bought it for her as a present.
Upon seeing the victim in the car with her friend, the 27-year-old got out of his mother's car and approached the passenger door where the victim was sitting before forcing her into the car, threatening her he was "not going nicely".
After making her take off the tracksuit, he threw her onto some grass. He pulled the victim's clothes and ripped out her hair extensions, as his mother shouted: "Make her be quiet."
Christopher Newman and Carl Newman

The two brothers brutally attacked a man who had gone to their home to buy cannabis with one of them hitting him with his car and the other hitting him over the head with a wrench. The victim was left with a fractured skull and was knocked unconscious as his assailants swore and shouted at him.
Christopher Newman, 44, and Carl Newman, 39, assaulted Luke Spinks outside their home in Cardiff[31] in June last year in a horrific incident which saw both of them initially charged with attempted murder.
Both brothers later pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm against their victim with intent.
Sending them to prison, a judge told the brothers they had left their victim "for dead".[32] "You were unsympathetic and unremorseful for what you had done and there was an element of rejoicing," he said.
Abdirahman Osman

The paedophile who asked a 14-year-old to perform a sexual act on him swore at a judge and told her "f*** your country" [33]as he was about to be jailed. Abdirahman Osman then stormed out of his sentencing hearing and refused to return, while appearing in court via video link from prison.
The 44-year-old approached a group of young girls in Roath Park in Cardiff in July last year and spoke to them, asking them how old they were. He tried to hug one of them, called them "sweeties", and said he wanted to be one of their boyfriends.
Later that day he called one of the group over to his home nearby and asked for help.
When she got closer, the defendant asked her to perform oral sex on him which left her feeling "shocked and scared", the court heard.
Benjamin Bird

The violent thug punched his partner after accusing her of cheating on him. Benjamin Bird knocked her unconscious as well as strangling her. He also threatened her with a metal bar and said he would "f****** kill her".
The 36-year-old had been in a relationship with the victim for eight months before the first incident took place in April 2024.
The couple had gone to the Pen and Wig pub but an argument began after a man spoke to the victim.
When they returned home, he dragged her to the floor before strangling her for 10 seconds. She managed to flee the house and call the police, but when they arrived she denied he had done anything wrong. Bird, who has previous convictions for offences including domestic violence, attacked the victim on numerous other occasions.
He was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment and was made subject to a restraining order for 10 years. [34]
Nicholas Adams

He was a teenager when he committed sexual acts against his victim who was under 10 years old when the abuse began.
Nicholas Adams' victim said he had been left "hugely ashamed" of what happened to him [35]and contemplated taking his own life.
During the abuse Adams, who is now 54, raped the boy and made him perform oral sex upon him. He also forced the victim to masturbate him and on one occasion he masturbated the victim and caused him an injury.
Adams denied the abuse but was convicted of five counts of indecent assault and four counts of committing a serious sexual offence following a trial. He was sentenced to nine years and six months imprisonment.
Daniel Blair

The football supporter throttled a young fan in front of the boy's parents during a Championship match.
An intoxicated Daniel Blair lifted a 16-year-old boy off the ground while gripping him in a chokehold as fellow fans desperately tried to break his grip during the incident at Swansea[36] City's home match against Birmingham City.
After being arrested the 37-year-old Birmingham supporter offered to supply police with 20 bags of cocaine before urinating in his cell.
Locking Blair up the judge told him he had carried out an "unprovoked attack on a child" [37]while heavily intoxicated and said immediate custody was the only appropriate sentence. The dad-of-one was also slapped with a football banning order prohibiting him from attending any matches for the next three years.
Mikael Boukhari and Simon Dickey

The two burglars were caught red-handed stealing ?45,000 worth of equipment from a golf club. Mikael Boukhari and Simon Dickey travelled from Newport in the middle of the night to target golf clubs in west Wales. [38]
The pair targeted two golf clubs in January this year, causing damage to both premises to break-in before stealing thousands of pounds worth of golfing equipment.
However, police officers intercepted the pair as they drove away in a van carrying the stolen equipment including a golf simulator, an angle grinder and a sledgehammer.
Both men were subject to suspended sentences at the time of the burglaries. Boukhari was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, and Dickey to two years and eight months in prison.
Marley Burgess

He bit his partner on her hand and threw a knife at her and her friend after he became angry at them calling the police. Marley Burgess also punched and slapped his partner, leaving her with black eyes and bruises.
The victim suffered frequent serious injuries during her relationship with the 26-year-old from Cardiff.
In January this year the victim was on the phone to her friend when Burgess came into her house and repeatedly hit her head. The victim ran to the garden and asked Burgess to leave but he refused and said: "If you don't come into the house I'm going to smash your phone."
The victim's friend arrived in the garden and told the abuser he needed to leave and the police had been called. That angered Burgess who went into the kitchen and came back with a knife and said: "I'm going to stab you." He then threw the knife at his partner and her friend.[39]
Jason Bailey

A woman was brutally raped by Jason Bailey while she was working despite her telling him she was not interested in a sexual relationship.
The victim said she "blamed herself" for the rape and has "struggled to come to terms with her reaction" having previously believed she could have fought back, a court heard.[40]
Bailey, 48, of Porthcawl[41], had previously asked his victim if she "fancied some no strings fun" but she had not responded and thought to herself: "Who the hell does he think he is?". He later approached her and asked her what he thought about his proposition, which she turned down.
Soraya Hatim

She continued supplying heroin and crack cocaine even after police had raided her home and seized her drug phone. Soraya Hatim simply switched to a second phone and resumed peddling the Class A drugs for another three months until police stopped her in a car with hundreds of pounds in cash and a stash of deals.[42]
At the time of the offending, the 46-year-old from Cardiff was subject to both a suspended prison sentence and a community order.
Majid Ali
He repeatedly raped a woman during which he "bit and chewed" on her and threatened to kill her if she did not comply.
The victim said the rape had left her with "emotional scars" and nightmares about her attacker.
Majid Ali, 56, slapped his victim across the face and told her that if she told anyone about his behaviour he would kill her and "wasn't scared of going to prison". He punched her, grabbed her by the throat and swore at her.
The court heard that he treated his victim "like an animal" when he raped her as she struggled and screamed for help. Ali was sentenced to a total of 12 years imprisonment[43], of which he will serve two thirds in custody.
Ryan Rankmore

The shoplifter assaulted a member of staff with a can of Red Bull before jumping into a river to try to avoid being caught by police. Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and a helicopter were all involved in fishing a sodden Ryan Rankmore out of the water, at which point he said to the emergency workers who had rescued him "**** you".
In February this year, the 42-year-old entered a shop at the Welcome Break Services at Cardiff[44] Gate and began filling a bag with items including ready meals, alcohol, and Lego sets.
He was challenged to pay by members of staff before he became verbally abusive and aggressive, hitting one of them in the face with a can of Red Bull energy drink.
He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison[45].
Jason Talbot

The abusive man punched his partner in the face and headbutted her before pushing her to the floor and causing a cut to her knee. Jason Talbot was previously convicted of harassing her after sending offensive messages[46] while making 1p transactions to her bank account after she'd blocked him on other platforms.
A neighbour called the emergency services after finding the victim covered in blood while coming out of her home distressed. The victim suffered from concussion, a black eye, facial swelling and a broken nose. Talbot was arrested and told officers: "This is why you end up getting hurt because you c**** mishandle me."
Luke Jancouski

He assaulted three children who were playing in a popular park. Luke Jancouski's unprovoked violence saw him poke one child in the eye and punch two others, causing one young boy to lose a tooth.
Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard how, in in early January 2026, three 11-year-old children were playing in Aberdare Park, Rhondda Cynon Taf, when they were approached by Jancouski. The 39-year-old then proceeded to assault the children. [47][48][49]
One child was poked in the eye and hit on the head; a second child was punched causing him to lose a tooth; and the third child was punched in the nose. Following an investigation, officers were able to link the assault to Jancouski by using CCTV from the scene which showed a tattoo on his hand.
He was sentenced to one year and six months in prison.
Matthew Roberts

He was sentenced to five years imprisonment after being found in possession of ?175,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine after he was arrested following a police raid. Matthew Roberts, 24, was arrested after officers from the serious organised crime unit raided an address in Newport[50] in November last year.
During the search of the property in Ringland, police seized heroin, cocaine and mobile phones. Weighing scales and cash was also recovered from his car.[51]
Brandon Davidson

The violent man assaulted his sister's boyfriend outside a hospital before taking his car and driving off. Brandon Davidson, 25,[78]
The 33-year-old met with the victim and others in Merthyr Tydfil town centre on September 27 last year. The meeting, which was described as "untoward", did not go to plan and the defendant and others became "angry and irate" towards the victim.
Lucas Byrne

The cocaine dealer tried to cover his tracks by moving the sim card for his drugs line from handset to handset.
Lucas Byrne was out of prison on licence for previous dealing when he returned to his old ways - but a "persistent" police investigation identified him as the face behind the LZ drugs line.[79]
A judge told the 22-year-old from Barry[80] it was clear there were people around him who cared about him and who did not want to see him wasting his life and he warned the defendant that if he were to be caught dealing in Class A drugs for a third time his sentence would start at seven years.
Adrian Shellam and Anthony Summerhayes

More than 30 people have been arrested in one part of Wales as part of a major police operation. South Wales Police[81] arrested 32 people across Cardiff[82] and the Vale of Glamorgan on Wednesday, March 11.
Those targeted included alleged shoplifters, violent offenders, and those with outstanding warrants. The operation aimed for officers to bring wanted people into custody. Some were jailed and you can read about them here.[83]
Joshua Hyett

The drug dealer was caught after he was involved in a minor collision[84] at the wheel of his BMW right in front of passing police officers.
Hyett was found with a stash of cocaine and cash and a phone full of incriminating messages after police became suspicious of his behaviour at the scene of the crash.
Sending the 29-year-old father-of-three down a judge at Swansea Crown Court[85] told him that his "selfishness" in taking drugs would mean innocent people in his life would end up suffering.
Aled Powell-Jones

He assaulted his elderly father, resulting in a broken hip[86], was sentenced to prison.
Powell-Jones was accused of pushing his father over and then kicking him multiple times, according to court proceedings.
David Powell-Jones, 79, required a hip replacement after it was fractured during the incident on 7 January this year. His mobility has since been affected and he experiences pain, having previously been fit and healthy. Powell-Jones, 48, from Ffordd Ysgethin, Tal y Bont, Barmouth[87], pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
Kyle Jones

Police found images on a paedophile's phone of a man believed to be the defendant sat next to a young girl in a state of undress..
Detectives have not been able to identify the female pictured on the lorry driver's phone.
The photos were among a haul of more than 2,500 images[88] and movies of child sex abuse found on Kyle Jones' phone. Swansea Crown Court[89] heard the 42-year-old father-of-two had also shared indecent images with like-minded individuals on a secure messaging app.
Talha Ahmadzai

.The man who raped a woman and a young boy and tried to rape a girl has been given an extended sentence[90] as an offender of particular concern.
When arrested Talha Ahmadzai claimed the allegations against him were fabricated and he told police officers: "Women won't have sex without force."
Ritesh Patel

The head of an organised crime gang fled to Thailand after police infiltrated his drugs operation which saw ?3m worth of heroin and cocaine trafficked. Ritesh Patel was later extradited back to the UK and was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment.
The 43-year-old, from Cardiff[91], led the crime group which was cracked by Operation Oberon, set up after EncroChat data containing previously encrypted messages became available to the authorities. Between February 1 and July 28, 2020, Patel led the south Wales arm of the operation from an address in Dubai.

The ex-lorry driver who killed a cyclist in 2015 has been jailed for sending sexual text messages to decoys who he thought were underage girls.
Jones, then Mark Baker, knocked down and killed a cyclist 11 years ago, for which he was given a suspended sentence at Shrewsbury Crown Court. His counsel told a sentencing hearing at Swansea Crown Court on Monday, March 16, that the incident had led to him having depression with "nothing in his life apart from the internet to communicate with people".
