A man has sadly died after being struck by a vehicle on the M61[1] near Bolton.

Emergency services rushed to the motorway, between junctions three and four, at around 2.25am this morning (April 3).[2]

Police confirmed that a 24-year-old man tragically died at the scene.

Officers are continuing to probe the full circumstances surrounding his death.

The M61 was completely shut in both directions following the collision, with the northbound carriageway reopening at around 5am and the southbound carriageway around 90 minutes later.

Greater Manchester[3] Police confirmed the driver involved remained at the scene and no arrests have been made.

A force spokesperson said: "Officers are appealing for anyone with any information - and who may have witnessed the collision - to please get in touch.

"This includes anyone with dashcam footage from around the time."
