Two teenagers have lost their lives following a serious collision on the M1.

Officers were called to the crash[1] just before junction 20 at 1.33pm on Friday afternoon, Saturday, April 11.

Police report that a blue car, travelling along Gilmorton Lane towards Lutterworth, left the road bridge above the carriageway and struck a minibus travelling southbound on the M1[2].

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: "Four people in the minibus - a white Fiat Ducato - were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, a man, has been discharged and three women remain in hospital."

"The two people in the blue car, both teenagers, were declared dead at the scene."

The road is expected to remain closed for several hours while forensic investigations continue to be carried out.

Police are appealing for anyone who was travelling on Gilmorton Lane or on the M1 near junction 20 - in both directions - at around 1.30pm on Friday afternoon to come forward.
