7 pictures after M65 crash between Accrington and Hapton

The M65 eastbound, between junction seven at Accrington and junction eight for Hapton, was brought to a standstill after a crash involving several vehicles. Police confirmed that a minor injury was reported, with traffic websites confirming more than two miles of congestion, as police, fire and ambulance vehicles attended. Pictures of the crash show a damaged HGV and other vehicles on the hard shoulder, with debris scattered across the road.
Another picture shows a mangled car. HGV driver Andy Flynn, who said he was involved in the crash, shared images from the scene and advised people to avoid the area. National Highways confirmed that the road was closed for around an hour before reopening.
At the time of writing, there are still 20 minutes of congestion. A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The M65 eastbound between junction seven in Accrington and junction eight in Hapton has reopened following a multi-vehicle collision. "There are currently delays of 20 minutes against expected travel times and two miles of congestion on the approach."
This was not the only issue reported on the M65 on Monday.[1] Earlier in the day, other issues were reported on the M65, with delays at the Guide and Whitebirk junctions due to animals on the road. It had been reported there was a vehicle fire, but it later transpired that animals in the road had led to the motorway being shut.
Police confirmed a minor injury had been reported but did not provide further details about the crash.
