A trucker is in hospital after his lorry was found on its side at the busy Sideway roundabout. And the collision has sparked gridlock across both the A50 and A500.
Now Staffordshire Police havde urged motorists to 'avoid the area' as a recovery operation gets underway. Police, firefighters, and paramedics were all sent to the scene at 7.20am this morning (May 11) where a truck was 'on its side'.
As reported by StokeonTrentLive[1] and the incident sent massive westbound queues back to Meir Park while the A500 was queuing back to the Sandyford turning.
National Highways went on to announce a closure of the eastbound stretch of the A50.
That's now a three-lane closure - with the initial stretch four lanes. An image from the scene shows specialist recovery at the scene on the eastbound lifting up the truck.
A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to the A50, at the A500 island at Sideway, following reports of a lorry on its side. Officers attended along with colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The driver, a man, was taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be serious. We informed Highways.
Recovery of the vehicle is being arranged.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area."
