A50 updates as overturned truck shuts Stoke-on-Trent dual-carriageway

Staffordshire Police has confirmed a trucker is in hospital after their lorry was found on its side. Now motorists are being told to 'avoid the area'.

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to the A50, at the A500 island at Sideway, following reports of a lorry on its side. Officers attended along with colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

The driver, a man, was taken to hospital by ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be serious. We informed Highways.

Recovery of the vehicle is being arranged.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area."
