Crash blocking M1 traffic involved five cars and lorry

Emergency services are currently responding to the multi-vehicle crash northbound between junctions 4 (Brockley Interchange) and 5 (Berrygrove Interchange). Based on early information most injuries are believed to be minor, although the lorry driver has been taken to hospital. Motorists have contacted the Watford Observer describing five police cars, five ambulances, and a fire engine passing by while they wait stuck in "standstill" traffic. A Herts Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "One appliance from Garston Station attended to assist the ambulance service, no persons were trapped."

Google Maps is estimating delays of around 40 minutes on the northbound M1, however the carriageway currently remains completely closed.

There are also delays heading southbound, due to onlookers.
