Cyclist dies after crash in Sudbury as Essex man arrested

Ian Simpson, 77, from Hartest, was seriously injured in a collision involving a bicycle and a white Peugeot Expert van on the A134 in Sudbury. The crash happened at the staggered junction with Mills Lane on Tuesday, May 5, at 2.30pm. Mr Simpson was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for treatment but sadly died on Sunday, May 24.

A 41-year-old man from Canvey was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug-driving. He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre and later released under investigation while police await the results of blood tests. Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

They are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision and may have dashcam footage.
