M2 between Junction 3 (Maidstone) and Junction 4 (Gillingham) reopens after police investigate crash between lorry and pedestrian

A section of the M2 was closed following a serious crash between a pedestrian and a lorry. The incident happened on the M2 coast-bound carriageway between Junction 3 (Blue Bell Hill) and Junction 4 (Gillingham) at around 3pm today (May 14).

Police, paramedics and members of the Air Ambulance were called to the scene. The road was shut for around four hours, and reopened just after 7pm.

At around 7.20pm, there were still delays of 37 minutes and two miles of congestion on the approach. National Highways said the collision was "serious". A statement on its website earlier today said: "Kent Police are leading the response and will be carrying out a full investigation, meaning the road will remain closed throughout the afternoon and into the evening.

"National Highways traffic officers are assisting with road closures."

Trapped traffic between Junction 3 and Junction 4 of the M2 was turned around from the back of the queue by traffic officers.

The ambulance service has been contacted for more information.
