M25 junction 5 Kent closed after lorry crash causing delays

A HGV crashed into the central reservation on the clockwise carriageway of the M25 in Kent shortly after 3am on Saturday morning (May 30), causing a large diesel spillage. Junction 5 at Sevenoaks[1] closed following the incident, just before exit slip road towards the M26, with lanes leading down towards the A21 later reopening. Emergency resurfacing works are being carried out as a result of the spillage and National Highways has warned motorists to "expect delays".
Recovery of the HGV has been completed, but service providers remain on scene to assess barrier damage and make the road safe. The standard diversion route cannot be used due to ongoing roadworks on the A25, westbound near Chipstead. Drivers are advised to take the A21 southbound for five miles to Morleys roundabout, turn around, and return northbound to rejoin the M25 at junction 5.
There are currently delays of up to 40 minutes on the A21, with normal traffic conditions expected to return by the end of the day on Saturday.
