M5 motorway junction reopened 24 hours after fatal crash

Junction 5, which connects the A38 with the motorway at Wychbold, was fully reopened this morning (Saturday) at around 2.30am, following the crash on Thursday (May 7). Emergency services were called out to the junction at around 9pm after a pedestrian was hit by a HGV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A38 had been closed between the entry and exit slip roads from the motorway while an investigation into the crash was carried out. The road partially reopened at around 6.30pm on Friday (May 8) but National Highways warned of delays due to one lane remaining closed for resurfacing works. A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, and a appeal was launched by the police.

PC Rory Grint-Smith said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died following this collision. "We are carrying out a full investigation to establish what has happened and would urge anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have information or dashcam footage to come forward. "We are also keen to hear from anyone who saw a white MAN Tractor heavy goods vehicle with a green trailer in the area around the time of the collision to please get in touch."
