M56 shut for seven hours as casualty airlifted to hospital after ‘serious’ crash

A casualty was airlifted to hospital after a 'serious' crash between a truck and two cars on the M56. And the collision left the eastbound carriageway shut for around seven hours.

Now Cheshire Police has issued an appeal for witnesses over yesterday's rush-hour crash. Emergency services were called to scene near Stretton, between junctions 10 and 9, just after 5pm.

A spokesperson for the force said: "On arrival officers found there had been a collision between a HGV and two cars.

One person sustained serious injuries and they were airlifted to hospital." Advertisement Advertisement

Meanwhile Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service scrambled three engines while a crew from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were also sent to the crash.

A spokesperson for the Cheshire serving said a casualty was freed from a vehicle after the roof was removed.

The motorway got back open at around 12.30am.
