Police launch appeal after five vehicle crash on M56

The collision, which involved a HGV and four cars, took place on the M56 near Stretton shortly after 5pm on Monday, May 18, leading to the closure of the eastbound carriageway between junction 10 (Stretton) and junction 9 (M6 Interchange). The vehicles involved were a blue BMW 325I, a grey Toyota Yaris, a dark blue Ford Focus, and a black Tesla. A 43-year-old woman from the BMW sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Salford Hospital, while a 52-year-old man who was a front seat passenger in the same vehicle was airlifted to the same hospital.
Both remain in a stable condition and their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses and video footage. The road reopened at around 12.30am the following day.
