Staffordshire M6 shut: One arrest, trucker in hospital and second suspect wanted

A crash has shut the M6, left a trucker in hospital, and resulted in one arrest. Staffordshire Police had been alerted to a suspected stolen car on the northbound M6 between junctions 12 and 13.

The blue Audi came to a stop when the vehicle was in collision with a HGV near Stafford Services. It led to the closure of the M6 northbound between junction 14 for Stafford North and junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent South.

Two men fled from the crashed car. Now one of them has been arrested. The drama unfolded from 4.50am this morning.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We were called following reports of a suspicious vehicle.

A car had been stolen in West Bromwich by two men, reportedly with a machete. The owner of the car was unhurt in the robbery.

"Our officers spotted the blue Audi S3 on the M6 northbound between junctions 12 and 13. The car was then involved in a collision with a HGV with two men making off from the scene on foot.

Firearms officers were sent to the scene, along with a dog unit and the National Police Air Service. The driver of the HGV was taken to hospital by ambulance. One man was found and checked over by paramedics before being detained a short time later.
