Tragic night as two men die in separate crashes on A46 in Warwickshire

A tragic night in Warwickshire saw two man die after being hit by lorries on the same road.

A man in his 80s died when he was hit on the A46 at around 1.30am today, Friday, May 22.

Just before 4am, 20 miles down the road in Alcester, a man in his 60s was killed by a lorry after his car broke down.

The first incident happened on the northbound section of the road between junctions 3 and 4, near Kenilworth[3]. Police were not treating it as suspicious.

The second happened on the edge of the county between Oversley Green and Salford Priors and saw a man in his 50s arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police confirmed the two cases were not connected. An investigation was launched into the second incident with officers asking for the public's help.

The force said: "We're asking for witnesses to come forward as we begin investigating the death of man in a collision near Salford Priors.

"Officers were called to the southbound stretch of the A46 between Oversley Green and Salford Priors shortly before 3.45am after receiving a report a pedestrian had been hit by the driver of an HGV lorry.

"The pedestrian - a man in his 60s - was believed to have been walking towards his car, which had broken down.

Sadly, the man died at the scene.

His next of kin has been informed and are being supported by our officers.

"A 55-year-old man from Cornwall has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in police custody.

"Investigations are underway and we're asking anyone with dashcam footage of the collision, who was driving along that stretch of road or who saw anything get in touch.
