Two in hospital after horror M56 crash between HGV and four cars

Two people were taken to hospital - including one by air ambulance - after a horror crash on the M56 in Cheshire. Shortly after 5pm on Monday 18 May, police were called to reports of an incident near Stretton.
On arrival officers found there had been a collision between a HGV and four cars - a blue BMW 325I, a grey Toyota Yaris, a dark blue Ford Focus, and a black Tesla. The driver of the BMW, a 43-year-old local woman, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Salford Hospital.

A front seat passenger in the BMW also suffered serious injuries. The 52-year-old local man was airlifted to the Royal Salford Hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening, and they are both currently in a stable condition.
Following the collision the eastbound carriageway of the M56 was closed between junction 10, Stretton, and junction 9, M6 Interchange, while investigation work was undertaken at the scene.
The road reopened at around 12.30am on Tuesday 19 May.
