A1 Northumberland crash LIVE: Major delays with road closed after serious collision between car and truck

A 'serious collision' on the A1 in Northumberland has led to traffic and a road closure in both directions. The crash, between a car and a truck, took place between the A697 in Morpeth, and Acklington, just after 4pm, with emergency services still on scene.

Northumbria Police and the North East Ambulance Service were both contacted for a comment in the aftermath of the incident, with traffic congestion stretching towards Northumberland Zoo to the north, with traffic on the adjacent A697 being impacted.

On the incident, a Northumbria Police spokesperson has given this statement: "Shortly after 4pm today (Monday), we received a report of a two-vehicle collision involving a car and a truck on the A1 southbound, near to Causey Park in Northumberland.

The comment from police continues: "Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene where a section of the road is closed. Motorists are advised to follow local diversions and seek an alternative route where possible.

Enquiries are ongoing."
