A419 traffic warning after fatal crash closes road

The A419 was closed in both directions near the White Hart roundabout in Swindon after a crash between a Vauxhall Vivaro van and a Toyota Aygo at around 8.30am on Friday, June 5. The driver of the Toyota, a woman in her 30s, died at the scene despite a major emergency response involving police, paramedics and an air ambulance. The southbound carriageway was reopened on Friday morning, but the northbound carriageway has remained closed for a police investigation.
Traffic[1] is being diverted via the roundabout and there are long and growing queues approaching the scene. Police warned the closure could continue through the evening rush hour and National Highways does not expect the scene to be fully cleared until around 9pm. In the last hour, National Highways confirmed that police were still completing their investigations and that there was significant congestion around the closure.
A spokesperson said: "A419 north remains closed at the A4259 Swindon following a serious collision. The south carriageway is open. "Wiltshire Police is completing investigations.
"Traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads.
Delays of 15 minutes and two miles of congestion on the approach."
