‘Catastrophic’ injuries led to PC’s death

A police officer suffered "catastrophic" injuries when she was struck by a car, an inquest has heard.
Northumbria PC Jess Turnbull, 19, was hit by a vehicle in Cramlington, Northumberland while responding to a report of a separate crash on 8 June.
She died in hospital two days later from her injuries.
The young officer had been sent to the scene of a crash involving a Land Rover Freelander and a Ford Explorer on the A189 Spine Road but was injured when a black Mercedes crashed into a marked police car.
The inquest at County Hall in Morpeth heard PC Turnbull was originally deployed to the scene with a colleague after a report of the crash on the southbound A189 to implement a road closure.
The two officers arrived on the scene at 23:26 BST.
Eight minutes later when she was outside the stationary police car, it was hit by another vehicle and PC Turnbull was injured.
