CCTV shows BMW on A483 in Powys moments before fatal crash
The video, taken from Calcourt Farm at Wernllwyd on the edge of the A483 Belan straight between Berriew and Welshpool, shows the car being driven by Abubakr Ben Yusaf at 6.19pm on November 16, 2024. He can be seen overtaking another vehicle near the entrance to the farm as he heads towards Welshpool. Jurors heard from witness Ben Carpenter, who had been travelling in the opposite direction, from Welshpool towards Berriew.
He told the court the red BMW drove past him close to the central line, throwing up stones as it passed. Moments later, the BMW lost control while travelling at excessive speed. Ben Yusaf, 31, claimed he lost control because of a "sudden change in the road surface," although he also told the court he did not see anything in the road he needed to avoid.
The trial was also shown separate dashcam footage from a car overtaken by Ben Yusaf moments earlier near Berriew. That footage - which Dyfed-Powys Police have not released publicly - showed a van and the red BMW being passed by an oncoming vehicle. The driver can be heard shouting: "F***ing d***heads," adding she had been travelling at 55mph.
A jury has now found optometrist Abubakr Ben Yusaf guilty of causing the death of Powys dad and rugby coach Rhys Jenkins by dangerous driving after hearing he had been speeding and repeatedly overtaking vehicles between Newtown and Welshpool.

Mr Jenkins, from Deuddwr near Arddleen, died at the scene when the white Toyota Yaris he was driving collided with the red BMW on November 16, 2024. Ben Yusaf was also convicted of causing death while driving without insurance and causing serious injury by dangerous driving after Mr Jenkins' son, Ioan, was hurt in the crash. His brother, 34-year-old Umar Ben Yusaf, who had been travelling in a separate car close behind, was cleared of dangerous driving but convicted of causing death by careless driving.
He was also found guilty of causing serious injury by careless driving, though cleared of the more serious dangerous driving charge.
The jury retired on Wednesday and returned its verdicts shortly before midday on Thursday, June 11.
The Manchester brothers will be sentenced at Mold Crown[1] Court[2] on Monday, July 27.
