Crash on M6 occurred after driver attempted to make off from police

At around 1.10pm afternoon, Friday, police officers attempted to stop a white BMW near junction, 18, Middlewich. The vehicle failed to stop and made off at speed, before colliding with a HGV fuel tanker between junction 19, Knutsford, and 20, Lymm, on the northbound carriageway. Both sides of the M6 were closed and the emergency services rushed to the scene.

Heavy traffic is building back from the collision, and two lanes remain closed on the northbound carriageway at this time. Three vehicles are believed to have been involved, but there are no reports of any serious injuries at this time. "At around 1.10pm officers attempted to stop a white BMW on the M6 northbound near to junction 18, Middlewich," a Cheshire Police spokesperson said.

"The vehicle failed to stop and made off at speed before colliding with a HGV fuel tanker between junctions 19, Knutsford and 20, Lymm Interchange.

"There are no reports of any serious injuries at this time.

"However, two lanes of the northbound are currently closed while emergency services deal with the incident."
