Diversions as M11 southbound CLOSED ‘throughout evening’

With the carriageway expected to remain closed throughout the day and evening, National Highways has put a signed diversion in place to help motorists navigate around the incident. Road users are advised to follow the hollow square symbol on road signs. The M11 is shut southbound between junction 10 for Duxford and junction 9 for Great Chesterford[1] following a serious collision involving two lorries and a van at around 12.15pm today (June 12).
The diversion takes drivers off the M11 at junction 10 onto the A505, before continuing to the roundabout with the A1301 where they should take the third exit. Motorists are then directed along the A1301 towards Stumps Cross, continuing over two mini roundabouts before using the slip road to rejoin the M11 at junction 9A. From there, drivers can continue southbound by merging back onto the motorway at junction 9.
Traffic officers are on scene managing the closure and assisting with clearing vehicles caught within the queue, while emergency services led by Cambridgeshire Police continue to deal with the incident. Drivers travelling from Essex towards Cambridge are being warned to expect delays of at least 30 minutes and are urged to allow extra time, plan ahead, or consider delaying their journey. A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: "Officers are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the M11, near to A505 at Duxford.
"The collision involves a HGV and two other vehicles and took place at just after midday. "The southbound carriageway is closed, and is likely to be so for some time. "Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
"Anyone with any information, including dash cam footage, is urged to report this to us online[2] quoting incident 219 of today.
"Call 101 if you do not have internet access."
