Driver dies and two seriously injured after car and van crash

A man has died and two others have been injured after a van and a car crashed in Dumfries and Galloway.

The 50-year-old, who was driving a black Vauxhall Vectra, died in hospital after the incident on the A709 Dumfries to Lockerbie road near Lochmaben at about 19:35 on Saturday.

A 67-year-old man and 55-year-old woman, who were in a white Citroen Dispatch van, were also taken to hospital where they remain in a serious condition.

Police closed the road for about seven hours before reopening it at about 03:30 on Sunday.
