Inquest opened after teen dies in lorry crash in Caerphilly

The 18-year-old man, who has been named as James Andrew Douglas McFadden from Hengoed, died following a crash with a Greggs lorry on the A468 at Caerphilly on Thursday, May, 21. [1] Mr McFadden was pronounced dead at the scene. An inquest has been opened because his death is the result of a road traffic collision, and Gwent Coroner's Office are awaiting the final cause of his death following a post-mortem.

Enquiries are ongoing at this time and an inquest will be held on 15 March, 2027 at noon. The crash happened between the Pontygwindy and St Cenydd roundabouts at approximately 11.25pm on May 21. Gwent Police officers attended the scene alongside crews from the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

At the time of the crash, a spokesperson for Gwent Police said: ""We received a report of road traffic collision on the A468 between the Pontygwindy roundabout and St Cenydd roundabout[2] at around 11.25pm on Thursday 21 May. "Officers attended along with personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. "The collision involved a car and lorry.

The driver of the car - an 18-year-old man from Caerphilly County - was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. "His family has been informed and specially trained officers will be allocated to support them throughout the investigation. "Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage, is asked to contact us quoting log reference 2600159044".
