Inverness-Aberdeen line closure update: One dead after person struck by train between Elgin and Keith near Elgin station

A person has died after being struck by a train[1] on the Inverness-Aberdeen line. The incident occurred at around 10.22pm on Wednesday night on a section of the track between Elgin and Keith near to Elgin. A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said the person was pronounced dead at the scene and the incident is not suspicious.
"Officers were called to the line near Elgin at 10.24pm yesterday (June 24) following reports of a casualty on the tracks," said a spokesperson. "Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal." The Scottish Ambulance Service said it had been called to the incident "near Elgin Train Station" at 10.22pm.
"We received a call at 10.22pm on Wednesday to attend an incident near Elgin Train Station. We dispatched one ambulance and a rapid response unit to the scene," a spokesperson for the service said. News of the sad incident first emerged late on Wednesday when ScotRail posted at 10.36pm to say the line was blocked[2] due to an "incident" in the "Keith area" and that emergency services were in attendance.
It later confirmed that the line had reopened in a follow-up post at 6.15am on Thursday[3] morning, although the first train departing Aberdeen for Inverness at 6.14am was cancelled as a result of the tragic incident.
