Lorry fire causes ‘long delays’ on A14 in Cambridgeshire

Firefighters have warned that the road could be closed for a 'prolonged period of time'

A major A-road is expected to be closed for a "prolonged period of time" due to a lorry fire. Emergency services are at the scene of a lorry fire this morning (Thursday, June 24) on the A14[1] westbound between Catworth and Keystone.

The road has been closed while the fire is dealt with. A Cambridgeshire[2] Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We are currently responding to a lorry fire on the A14 Westbound between Catworth and Keystone.

The carriageway is closed while we deal with the incident. The road is likely to be closed for a prolonged period of time so please find alternative routes for travel."

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson added: "We were called just after 10am today (25 June) with reports a lorry had caught fire on the westbound carriageway of the A14 near Catworth. Emergency services have attended the scene.

The road has been closed while the fire is put out and the vehicle is recovered.

"No injuries have been reported. The road is likely to be closed for a prolonged period of time and motorists are advised to find an alternative route. A partial closure is also in place on the eastbound carriageway."

As of 11.20am, traffic site Inrix reports there are "long delays" along the road.

It said: "A14 Westbound closed, long delays due to lorry fire from J22 A1 (Brampton, Cambridgeshire) to J17 Staunch Hill (Leighton Bromswold, Catworth).

Congestion to 20 (Ellington) with trapped traffic, and three miles of onlookers."
