M25 J27 Epping closed after lorry fire reported on motorway

The incident, which occurred on the anti-clockwise carriageway between Junction 27 (Epping) and Junction 26 (Waltham Abbey), is one of two separate lorry fires reported on the motorway. The second incident prompted the closure of the M25 between Junction 28 (Brentwood) and Junction 27. Essex Police have described the incident as a "serious" crash.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We know this will cause disruption, but this is important work and we'd urge motorists to please find alternative routes." Essex County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it is supporting Essex Police and National Highways at the scene. A spokesman said: "Motorists are likely to experience delays and are advised to seek alternative routes where possible.
"We thank motorists for their patience and cooperation." The lorry fire between Junction 27 and Junction 26 was first reported just after 3.05am. Drivers have faced delays of up to 72 minutes, with around five miles of congestion.
The usual diversion through Gallows Corner cannot be used due to unrelated roadworks. Instead, drivers are being directed to follow signed diversion routes via the A12, A414 and M11, rejoining the M25 at Junction 25. National Highways has warned that delays are expected to increase during the morning peak.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to check the latest traffic updates before travelling.
