M5 standstill clears near Bristol after multi-vehicle crash

There were 75-minute delays on the M5 after a multi-vehicle crash this afternoon (Saturday, June 27). Drivers were held on the M5 northbound near Portishead at junction 19, causing major queues on the approach. National Highways said there were six miles of congestion on the approach as of 12.40pm, with delays of 75 minutes.

Traffic cameras showed queues in all three lanes of the motorway. A witness said: "M5 north at a standstill just before j19, police car and ambulance just gone past." Another person added: "No one likely to move for a while." BristolLive understands a caravan was involved.

Roads and traffic monitoring site, Inrix, reported the crash at 12.12pm. It said: " All traffic being temporarily held due to multi-vehicle accident on M5 Northbound at J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead)." Just after 2pm, Inrix reported the M5 delays had cleared and traffic was returning to normal.
