Major M6 delays live after multi-vehicle crash leads to large oil spill

There were major delays on the M6 today after a multi-vehicle crash on the M6 caused a large fuel spillage in the Black Country.

Lanes one and two were closed by traffic police after the incident on the southbound carriageway between J10 for Walsall and J9 for Wednesbury.

It prompted six miles of tailbacks and at least 70-minute delays.

National Highways: West Midlands posted on X: "Lanes 1 & 2 (of 4) remain closed on #M6[3] in #WestMidlands[4] southbound between J10 #Walsall[5] & J9 #Wednesbury[6] following a collision which caused a large oil spillage.

" @WMPolice[7] are working on scene. Current delays of 70 minutes and 6 miles of congestion."

Traffic data monitor Inrix said: "Long delays and two lanes closed due to recovery work, multi-vehicle accident and oil spillage on M6 Southbound from J10 A454 Black Country Route (Wolverhampton / Walsall) to J9 A461 Wood Green Road (Wednesbury).

"Congestion to J11 (Cannock).

Lanes one and two (of three) are closed."

All lanes reopen

All lanes have now re-opened.

But there are also reports of a broken down vehicle within the queueing traffic.

Lane 2 reopens

Lane two has reopened which will ease the traffic flow.

However, lane one remains shut with journey times reported to be 60 minutes longer than normal.

Crash involved HGVs and van

A National Highways West Mids traffic report said the collision involved HGVs and a van.

Some of those involved were thought to have suffered minor injuries.
