Mechanic left hospital with ‘head injuries’ after A419 crash

Siamak Soltanpur, from Twickenham in London, was riding on the slip road from the A419 northbound to Dorcan in Swindon on July 12, 2025. An inquest into Mr Soltanpur's death concluded at Swindon and Wiltshire Coroners' Court on Friday, June 5, finding that he died from the injuries sustained in the incident, which occurred when he was visiting family in Swindon. Mr Soltanpur, known as Sia, was described by his sister as a very kind and funny man.
She added that a testament to that when the family travelled to his London property following his death, the local community were very kind and remembered him fondly. She added: "Once you met Sia, you wouldn't forget him, and he will be greatly missed." Following the crash on July 12 last year, Mr Soltanpur, who was 69 at the time of his death, was rushed to Great Western Hospital.
Despite doctors advising him not to due to head injuries sustained in the incident, within hours of arriving at hospital Sia self-discharged and went to a family member's home. However, after his health rapidly deteriorated, an ambulance was called and he was readmitted to hospital. Two days later, on Monday, July 14, Mr Soltanpur was confirmed to have died at GWH.
Recording his conclusion, area coroner Grant Davies recorded that it is likely that Sia had decided he had taken the wrong turn off and changed direction suddenly. The coroner's conclusion reads: "In doing so, whilst travelling at approximately 60mph, he unintentionally struck the curb of the roadside verge and was thrown from the motorcycle. "Emergency services took him to the Great Western Hospital, Swindon, where it was found he had suffered a significant head injury.
"Against medical advice, but assessed as having capacity, Mr Soltanpur discharged himself but was later re-admitted following a deterioration in his condition. "Sia continued to deteriorate and was later confirmed deceased at 5:21pm on July 14, 2025." The coroner concluded that Mr Soltanpur died as a result of head injuries sustained by a road traffic collision on July 12, 2025.
The hearing heard several statements from witnesses to the incident, who said Mr Soltanpur was driving within the speed limit, and that it was a clear, dry day with excellent visibility. However, multiple witnesses reported seeing the motorcycle suddenly lose control and skid before hitting the verge and throwing Sia off. Following the crash, the road was closed while police investigated the incident.
The motorcycle was later inspected, and was found to have no mechanical faults, and to have passed its MOT earlier in the year.
