Gridlocked traffic on the A50

A woman has been taken to hospital following a rush-hour smash between a truck and car on the A50. And the collision near Meir sparked long delays this morning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service say a crew came across the smash at 8.35am. As reported by The Sentinel[1] and the crash sent queues back to Heron Cross.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "One of our ambulances came across a collision involving a car and a lorry at the junction of Uttoxeter Road and the A50 at 8.35am. They treated a woman, who was in the car, for injuries not believed to be serious before taking her to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further assessment."

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to the A50 tunnel in Meir following reports of a collision.

Two vehicles, a car and a DAF truck, were involved in the collision on the eastbound carriageway.

"We closed lane two while emergency services attended the scene.

A woman was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

"Drivers exchanged details and recovery was arranged."

Officers left the scene by 10.35am.
