A white Isuzu Grafter Flatbed van struck the 84-year-old man at around 5.55pm.
He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but sadly died yesterday.
The 53-year-old male driver of the van was arrested in connection with the incident and released pending further enquiries.
The busy road was closed for around five hours to allow for investigations to begin.
Police are now appealing for anyone with information to speak to officers.
They are particularly keen to talk to anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have dash camera footage from their vehicle.
Sergeant Gemma Blackadder said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.
“Our enquiries into this collision are ongoing, and I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the crash to please contact us.
