Pedestrian hit by bus as police race to Scots road & seal off area

A PEDESTRIAN has been hit by a bus on a busy Ayrshire street prompting police to lock down the area.

Emergency crews raced to the scene on Glasgow Road in Kilmarnock[1] this afternoon.

The alarm was raised at around 1pm after officers received reports of a person being struck by an oncoming bus.

The area is usually busy with vehicles with it being close to the A77 road and the M77 motorway[2].

Cops[3] have sealed off a section of the road, including the slip road to the A77 northbound.

And they are urging the public to avoid the area and use an alternative route if possible.

Drivers[4] currently looking to access the A77 and M77 are being diverted through a road to Kilmaurs.

Vehicles on the road are also being asked to turn back.

Photos from the area show a stagecoach X76 double-decker service, which was heading towards Glasgow, sitting stationary on the side of the road.

A number of police[5] vehicles are also on the busy road parked a short distance behind the bus.

At the scene, a small teenager’s bike is seen propped up against a lamppost as collision[6] experts probe the scene. 

It is condition of the pedestrian who was struck by the bus is currently unclear.

Police Scotland[7] Ayrshire shares a statement on social media[8] warning locals and drivers of the incident.

It read: “Emergency services[9] are in attendance following a crash involving a bus and a pedestrian on Glasgow Road, Kilmarnock.

“Glasgow Road is currently closed at its junction with the slip road to the A77 northbound.

“The public are asked to avoid the area.”

Pedestrian raced to hospital following early Boxing Day horror smash in sleepy Scots village

A PEDESTRIAN has been rushed to hospital after an early Boxing Day horror smash involving a vehicle.

Emergency services[1] raced to the scene at the A77 in Lochans, near to Stranraer, at around 6.10am this morning[2].

A female pedestrian was taken to hospital[3] but it is not known at this stage what condition she is in.

It is not known if the driver of the vehicle was injured.

The A77 between Stranraer and Portpatrick was closed with local diversions in place for several hours.

Cops[4] asked the public to avoid the area.

Police[5] Scotland[6] spokesperson: “The A77 is closed at Lochans following a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that happened around 6.10am on Thursday, 26 December.

“Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, a woman, was taken to hospital.

“A local diversion is in place and road users are advised to avoid the area.”

Major Scots road CLOSED after lorry catches fire & emergency crews lock down scene

A MAJOR Scots road remains closed after a lorry caught fire last night following a crash.

Emergency crews locked down the A77 near Ballantrae, Ayrshire[1] in both directions just before 8pm.

Firefighters tackled the blaze while the road was closed.

There were no reports of injuries following the one-vehicle crash, but one person was taken to Galloway Community Hospital.

Shocking pictures from the scene show firefighters tackling the huge blaze on the road.

The vehicle appears to have toppled over in to some trees as the fire ripped through the lorry cab.

Officers confirmed that arrangements are being made to move the lorry and the scaffolding it was transporting.

All traffic leaving Stranraer heading northbound had to follow a diversion of 53 miles.

And ferry traffic at Cairnryan wanting to head north had to follow a 58-mile diversion.

Anyone heading southbound had a route of 53 miles.

A Police Scotland[3] spokesperson said: “Around 7.45pm on Tuesday, 10 September, 2024, police were made aware of a one-vehicle crash on the A77 near Ballantrae, resulting in the vehicle leaving the road.

“There were no reports of any injuries. Arrangements are being made to uplift the lorry and its contents (scaffolding).

“The road remains closed and a diversion is in place.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 19:47 on Tuesday 10 September to attend an incident on the A77, north of Cairnryan.

“We dispatched one ambulance to the scene and one patient was transported to Galloway Community Hospital.”
